Flies for Iceland and Clear Rivers in the North
Rivers with Clear Water
Fly fishing in Iceland is unique. In many ways, the rivers in Iceland resemble those in Finnmark: clear, shallow rivers with relatively cold water. Europeans and Americans travel to Iceland to experience the fantastic salmon, char, and trout fishing opportunities. Many fly patterns favoured in Iceland are also popular in the rivers of Finnmark and Troms.
What Do Salmon Eat in the Sea in the North Atlantic?
A study of salmon stomach contents from the North Atlantic shows that fish can be the bulk diet by weight – but shrimp can make up 95% by number. Fly fishers using Frances flies can achieve great catches. Shrimp patterns in sizes #4 – 8 seem to be a good choice for Icelandic and Northern Norwegian salmon. Alongside the larger shrimp flies, smaller versions of Frances fly fish well throughout the summer in Iceland and the Northern Norwegian rivers.
The box set includes traditionally styled Frances tube flies tied on copper tubes and matching single hooks for tube flies.
