Modern Elegance, Classic Roots
Modern Elegance, Classic Roots
This Green Highlander is not a Victorian classic but a modern, fishing-focused interpretation of the historic pattern.
Tied on black double hooks in sizes 6 and 8, the fly features modern proportions and traditional elegance, giving it reliable movement in mixed currents.
The colour palette makes it especially effective in forested rivers, where the green background of trees and riverbanks helps the fly blend naturally into the environment—a long-held principle in salmon fly design.
Well suited for rivers such as Mandal, Autna, Bjergheim, Tovdalselva and Drammen, and equally effective in other rivers with similar conditions.
Historical Note
The original Green Highlander pattern dates to Victorian Britain, generally credited to Major Grant in the late 1800s.
This fly is a contemporary interpretation, built for practical salmon fishing rather than classic display.
